Grace Presbytery, together with Gethsemane Presbyterian Church, will offer a Service of Ordination on Sunday, October 30th at 4:00 p.m. to ordain Maria Torres-Vargas as Minister of Word & Sacrament.

Maria was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and has three adult children and six grandchildren. Her family provides her with the greatest sense of joy and achievement.

She has written and translated bible studies for Horizons Magazine, a publication of PC(USA) Presbyterian Women, and children’s bible study curriculum for the Presbyterian Church Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Maria worked for Texas Health Resources as a Certified Healthcare Interpreter assisting with Spanish-speaking patients at Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital for 14 years, where she also completed a Chaplain residency (Clinical Pastoral Education).

Maria became a member of Gethsemane Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth when she arrived from Puerto Rico in 2008 to begin her residency. She has enjoyed serving as guest preacher at Gethsemane.

Maria has received a call from First Presbyterian Church of Del Rio, Texas, where she will serve as stated supply.

We are grateful for the opportunity to worship with the members of Gethsemane and delighted to officially ordain Maria to the ministry!
