The Social Justice Public Witness Committee of Grace Presbytery presents Resisting Islamophobia:
- to strengthen connections between the North Texas Presbyterian and Muslim communities so folks feel less isolated and alone;
- to educate and inform on the current issues facing Muslims in North Texas;
- and to provide action items so we can stand as a public witness against hate.
ALL are welcome! A halal dinner is included with your $10 registration fee. In-person space is limited.
THE SPEAKERS
Mustafaa Carroll is a civil rights advocate who serves as the executive director of the Dallas/Fort Worth office of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-TX, DFW), the United States largest Muslim grassroots civil rights and advocacy group with over 30 offices nationwide. CAIR's mission is “To enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.” Carroll began advocating at 14 years old and became president of the NAACP Youth Council in Gary, Indiana, shortly before his 16th birthday. He served as CAIR-Houston’s executive director from June 2010 through July 2018 and now convenes the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Muslim Alliance for Black Lives (MABL-DFW).
Dr. Aminah Iftikhar Chowdhry holds a PhD in Religion and Philosophy, with research and teaching interests spanning Islamic ethics, philosophy of religion, environmental ethics, energy justice, and contemporary ethical issues. She is passionate about connecting academic scholarship with real-world challenges and encouraging thoughtful dialogue across religious and cultural communities. As Outreach Lead at East Plano Islamic Center, she is actively involved in community engagement, interfaith dialogue, education, and service. Her work reflects a commitment to making a meaningful difference as a Muslim by promoting knowledge, compassion, justice, and positive engagement within the wider community.
Dr. Hind Jarrah is one of the founders of The Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation , a nonprofit organization established in 2005 in the aftermath of September 11 and dedicated to the empowerment of ALL women. TMWF programs included education , interfaith and outreach, philanthropy, and social services . Our main program, Peace in the Home, provides comprehensive services for victims of Donestic Violence.
Dr. Todd Green is a former religious studies professor at Luther College and the current Senior Director of Campus Partnerships at Interfaith America. A prominent scholar of Islamophobia, his perspectives have been featured in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, and CNN. He is the author of multiple books, including The Fear of Islam: An Introduction to Islamophobia in the West, and Presumed Guilty: Why We Shouldn't Ask Muslims to Condemn Terrorism.
