The General Presbyter Search Committee (GPSC) recently provided a progress update to the Grace Presbytery Council at its May meeting, held virtually via Zoom.
The committee met weekly until the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting stay-at-home orders. Our early work consisted of getting to know one another and setting goals. Stated Clerk Gerry Tyer came to one of our meetings to offer information about leadership. The committee worked through a process with Gerry.
At the next meeting we created a list of individuals to contact to discuss the future of presbyteries and of Grace Presbytery specifically. These calls were assigned to individual committee members. Andy Odom visited with the committee to answer questions about the job description as provided by the Personnel Committee.
After Easter, the committee began to meet regularly again via Zoom. The job description was reviewed with an eye toward making it more comprehensive to the most important tasks. The committee members agreed that it seemed to encompass more tasks than one person can reasonably accomplish.
Interim General Presbyter Mike Thompson participated in our most recent meeting via Zoom. Mike offered the committee helpful answers about the workload and how it is currently divided among presbytery staff.
The search committee is currently creating a timeline and work flow process. These documents are in draft form, to be finalized soon.
Respectfully submitted,
Phyllis Kidwell, Ruling Elder & Christian Educator
